How does zinc, copper and iron interact with each other and with other nutrients.?
Copper levels in the body are reduced if too much zinc is taken. If copper intake is too high, levels of vitamin C and zinc will drop. Iron is not absorbed by the body if there is not enough copper intake. Excessive zinc intake interferes with iron absorption and that of vitamin E. Because bacteria require iron for growth, the body stores it and does not utilize it when there is an infection going on and iron supplement should cease when the body is fighting off infection. Vitamin C can increase iron absorption as much as 30%. Reccomended daily maintenance levels are Iron 18mg; Copper 3mg; Zinc 30mg. All minerals require acid to be assimilated.
