How does world distribution of population help to predict volcano hazards?
Where the population is greater, a volcanic eruption is more hazardous. The population tends to be substantial near volcanoes due to the fertility of volcanic ash but if there are few people despite otherwise ideal conditions it may be because there has been a recent eruption. Volcanoes usually occur where plates are thinner, particularly near plate boundaries, However, the places where there are most volcanoes are not the places where seismic activity is greatest.
