How does water potential affect the rate of osmosis?
Water moves from a high water potential to a low water potential. A higher water potential has a lower concentration of solutes (a high “water concentration”) and so should an animal cell be put into this hypotonic medium, it would swell, become turgid and potentially burst. This is well demonstrated in vitro with red blood cells due to their characteristic biconcave shape. Plant cells are less likely to burst due to their protective rigid cell wall. Dont really know what you’re a freshman IN which would help, so I assume Biology.
