How does water based ink compare with solvent based ink?

When a solvent based ink is jetted on a vinyl substrate, the organic solvent partially dissolves the surface of the substrate. As the ink dries, this dissolved vinyl plastic and the plastic binder in the ink combine with the pigment to form a new solid layer. After the solvent completely evaporates, this solid plastic “image layer” becomes almost part of the substrate.
