How does Vertglas compare to waxes?
Vertglas is completely different from waxes. Waxes are petroleum-based products which attempt to seal the surface but leave little pockets of air underneath. Sunlight will immediately begin to work on these pockets of air and break down the wax. If your gel coat was oxidized before, there are more pockets of air under the wax regardless of any compounding you’ve done. Because there are more air pockets due to oxidation, the wax breaks down faster than before and your gel coat is once again oxidized. This vicious cycle continues until it either consumes all of your free time or you give up. Vertglas breaks this cycle by sealing the gel coat using a unique co-polymer. The Vertglas sealer penetrates into the gel coat and begins sealing it from the inside out. After the first few coats, the gel coat is sealed and the Vertglas sealer begins to bring out the shine in your boat. By applying several shiny coats of the sealer, your boat is protected for over a year from oxidation. Best of all,
