HOW DOES USAC PREPARE DRIVERS FOR THE NEXT LEVEL?
“I personally believe that USAC racing is the toughest racing, as far as short-track racing goes. Also, it’s open wheel so we don’t have any fenders, so we can’t beat and bang; we’ve got to race as hard as we can and get as close as we can without getting into each other. We don’t have spotters, so we learn to feel the cars around us as we’re racing, and I think that helps in NASCAR because you’ll finish a lot of races. You won’t be knocking fenders off and stuff like that.” IS IT DIFFICULT TO ADJUST TO THE HEAVIER CARS IN NASCAR? “It’s a lot different. It’s night and day. You come from an overpowered car with no downforce to a little bit of an underpowered vehicle with quite a bit of downforce, and it’s just learning how they slow down. They slow down a lot different. They don’t turn; you never get them to turn. I feel like I’m always fighting to get the vehicle to turn.
