The bacteria in Biological Pond Clarifier consist of two main classes, chemolithotrophic and heterotrophic. The first class, called nitrifying bacteria, oxidize ammonia (NH3) to nitrite (NO2), then to nitrate (NO3). These bacteria also consume large amounts of phosphate.
