How does TPP empower women?
With efforts like the Kenya Efficient Cookstove Initiative, TPP gives women opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Women in Kenya (and other parts of rural poor communities) have a huge amount of their time consumed gathering fuelwood and preparing and cooking meals throughout the day. Usually, this is done inside the hut which exposes them and their children to deadly levels of smoke and potential severe burns. This project provides portable, fuel efficient stoves that require less than half the normal amount of fuelwood. This means that the women spend less time cooking and gathering wood and more time nurturing the family and potentially earning an income.
