How does TMR compare to ECP?
While it may be an effective treatment for some people, ECP requires a significant investment in patient time (35 hours of treatment administered 1-2 hours a day, five days a week, for 7 weeks). Often, ECP clinics will encounter non-compliant patients due to the required time commitments. Although TMR is a surgical procedure, new delivery systems promise to reduce not only the invasiveness but the recovery time for patients. Additionally, TMR already randomized clinical trial data showing long term efficacy beyond 5 years – far beyond that of ECP.
