How does this test differ from a guaiac-based test?

The Instant-View® FOB Test is an immunoassay that detects the human hemoglobin present in occult (hidden) blood using antibodies specific to the human hemoglobin molecule. A guaiac-based test detects peroxidase activity and is not specific for human hemoglobin. Therefore, certain foods can interfere with the results of a guaiac test and cause false positive results. The Instant-View® test is not affected by the amount or type of food that is eaten.
