How does thermal fractures of the skull occur?
A2:It’s due to Evaporation of fluid from tissues so; the bone becomes harder and may lead to fracture (mostly fissure fracture) and the brain shrunken. This occurs in open fire place after death so, the problem is identifying whether it’s homicidal (AM) or thermal fissure fracture… Also, when boxers attitude occurs muscles tend to shorten and thus the tension on the bone could be too strong and lead to its fracture. Another explanation when the thermal fracture is in the skull and you all know that is a common site for it, the outer table and the inner table both shrink in response to loss of fluid but at different rates and thus an inequilibrium exists leading to a deformity in the skull which leads to a fracture.
