How does the US establish a balance between its relation with Arab allies and Israel?
A. Historically, successive US administrations have maintained a symbiotic relation with both their Arabs client states and Israel. At times US’s alliance with the Arabs states has caused some annoyance on the part of Israel and its lobby groups. For example, in the early years of the Iran-Iraq war the US decided to sell Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) to Saudi Arabia to assist Saddam Hussein with intelligence. This decision did not sit well with some Israeli politicians and their allies in the US who were interested in “containing” Iraq first. Similar frictions and fissures have appeared at other times. The interesting issue is what has happened in recent times.
