How does the TV show “house” relate to todays society?
I’m not sure it really does relate to today’s society – it’s just good entertainment. House is a drug addict and an insensitive jerk who is brilliant enough to keep his job because he saves lives and has a boss who covers his butt. He makes racist and sexist comments about his patients, subordinates and bosses. I don’t think he’s racist or sexist deep down – he does it to amuse himself and provoke a reaction. He is a fictional character – certainly not representative of most doctors. In real life, he’d be fired in a heartbeat. He was somewhat abused as a kid by his Marine Corps pilot dad and grew up living on military bases all over the world. He has trouble with all kinds of relationships with relatives, friends, lovers and coworkers. He’s childish, antisocial and miserable, breaking the rules whenever it suits him. If he weren’t a successful doctor, he’d probably end up like the Unabomber. All that being said, it’s one of my favorite shows and Hugh Laurie is brilliant in his portraya
