How does the toll-free number system work?

0

The US toll-free number system (+1800*, +1888*, +1877*, +1866*) only works within the NANPA dialing plan (from +1 numbers). This includes US (including AK & HI), Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI, and CNMI. Costs to accept calls from these locations to US toll-free numbers is more expensive. Likewise costs to accept calls from pay phones is more expensive. It is not possible for an International caller (from any location not listed above) to call a US toll-free number, so it is always wise to advertise a local number.
