How does the thermosphere affect the life of the average person?
The thermosphere is near the top of the atmosphere. It is characterized by a high temperature which increases as you go higher (that’s why it’s called the thermo-sphere). The thermosphere and the ionosphere occupy the same region of space; the thermosphere is the hot gas at the top of the atmosphere, the ionosphere is the ionized gas at the top of the atmosphere. It is not possible to fully understand one without understanding the other. By studying the thermosphere we also hope to learn more about the lower atmosphere (where we live). Changes in the global temperature of the lower atmosphere can propagate upward and have a large effect of the conditions in the thermosphere.
