How does the temperature change as i go farther away from the earths atmosphere?
Temperature changes in different atmospheric layers as we go up and the reason why in brackets. Troposphere – Decreases (Distance to the land surface increases as we go up. Land surface is the main source of heating of air) Stratosphere – Increases (Ozone layer in top part of stratosphere gets heated up by absorbing UV radiation) Mesosphere – Decreases (Due to decreasing solar heating and increasing cooling by CO2 radiative emission) Thermosphere – Increases (UV rays cause ionization of gases increasing the temperature and producing auroras) Exosphere – Increases (The density of gases decrease and the atmosphere becomes thinner) The second link has a graph that is very informative.
