How does the TeleVoIP STICK system handle (E)911 calls?
The major, and potentially dangerous, limitation of VoIP technology is emergency calling, i.e. 911. VoIP is still evolving and cannot provide emergency personnel with critical Caller ID info such as name, number, and physical address. Also, in the event of power or service outage VoIP will not work. The TeleVoIP STICK provides the user with land line access in the event of a 911 call, power outage, or service outage. The TeleVoIP Stick defaults all calls to the PSTN line during these events and if the PC Software application is not available. To place an (E)911 emergency call you must have a PSTN line attached, pick up the phone get the PC dial-tone or the PSTN dial-Tone and enter the emergency number, from either dial-tone. 911 is the default but this can be changed with user setting to meet requirement of the locale if different.
