How does the SurgiFrost Cryoablation System work?
Pressurized argon gas is delivered from the SurgiFrost Control Console through small injection tubes to the tip of the probe. Inside the probe, the pressurized argon gas expands and cools which extracts heat from the surrounding tissue and therefore freezing it. The temperature of the probe will cool to -160ÂșC. The SurgiFrost cryoablation system uses a malleable, single use cryosurgical probe developed to ablate cardiac arrhythmias. It is generally used while a patient is undergoing another (concomitant) surgical procedure such as CABG or mitral valve repair or replacement. In the United States alone there are more than 1,200 hospitals that perform open-heart surgery. A significant number of these hospitals have begun to aggressively treat cardiac arrhythmia during surgery. Additionally, work is underway to develop the SurgiFrost cryoablation system for the treatment of primary atrial fibrillation often called stand-alone treatment which will expand the market opportunity to patients w
