How does the Store It…Start It® product compare to Sta-Bil® by Gold Eagle®, especially when using with ethanol?
Based on their available MSDS information, the main ingredient in the product from Gold Eagle® called Sta-bil® is Naptha (90% to 100%), and is actually the same petroleum distillate used in charcoal lighter fluid and stove fuel. It is completely insoluble with water and as ethanol contains a substantial amount of water in its composition, I would say that it’s probably not the best product to use in a situation where ethanol is introduced into the system. Their reasoning, I believe, for using this product is because it leaves an oily film behind after evaporation, which in turn, does protect cylinder walls, rings, valve guides, and carburetor internals to help on a restart after long periods of rest.
