How Does The Spanish House Accomplish Its Mission Statement?
We accomplish our mission through three programs: “Activities” , “Charlemos”, and “Committees”. Activities: “Activities” are essentially any activities that allow members of the house to interact with each other while being exposed to some aspect of Latin American Culture. The most common activity is “Tertulia”, which is a 1 hour dinner held mainly on Franklin St. where members can practice their Spanish conversational skills. The location and time of Tertulias are voted on during Charlemos on Sunday night by members of the house, and usually there are 2-3 Tertulias held each week. Other activities that are offered include movies, speaker series, house dinner, community service, and midnight soccer, to just name a few. Members are always welcomed to offer ideas that can count as activities, and it is up to the coordinators to decide whether or not that idea may count as an activity.
