How does the sludge boat work?
The sludge boat uses a fish finder (Lowrance LCX-20C with GPS). The purpose of the fish finder is not to find fish, but rather use the same sonar technology to gain information about the top of the sludge layer. The sludge is thick enough to bounce the sonar signal back to the surface. While logging depth data, GPS readings are also taken by the attached GPS receiver. All data is recorded onto an SD memory card that can be used by any standard computer.
