How Does the Sling Media System Work?
As is the case with many innovations, the idea behind the Sling Media system is straight-forward. You can receive your TV picture via cable, your own antenna, or set-top box. Instead of the TV, you hook up the incoming TV broadcast cable to the Slingbox device. Using another cable, you connect the Slingbox to the TV. Now, the Slingbox can receive all the TV channels you can view at home. The Slingbox passes the broadcast on to the TV. Next, the Slingbox must be connected to the Internet for allowing TV access for remote devices. You need to hook up an Ethernet cable from the Slingbox to your home network router. The router can be your cable modem, ADSL modem, LAN switch, hub, or a Wi-Fi access point. Now, the Slingbox is ready to receive TV programming, encode and compress the live video images, and transmit continuous video stream to a remote device via the Internet. The basic setup of the Sling Media is easy, but it is possible to connect DVR, DVD, and other video devices to the syst
