How does the seasonal influenza vaccine work?

0

The vaccine is made of killed influenza viruses and therefore cannot give you influenza. The vaccine is given by injection into the arm (or thigh if aged less than 18 months) and tricks the immune system into thinking the infection has occurred. In response, the immune system starts making antibodies, which protect against the influenza. Protection begins about two weeks after receiving the vaccine.
