How does the Santa Maria water system work?
Santa Maria serves its customers with a water pressure that is fairly constant around the clock. Depending on the elevation of the property where water is served, the pressure of the water delivery is usually between 60 and 80 pounds per square inch (psi). Pumping water wells located primarily in the vicinity of the municipal airport produce the drinking water for Santa Maria. The City of Santa Maria bought a supplemental source of water from the State. Both water supplies are of superior quality when compared to all primary health standards. The State Water is considered by most our customers to be superior with respect to taste, and it usually has a lower mineral content. Since this is the case, Santa Maria delivers the maximum amount of State water that is available before blending in the well water. For most times of the year, State water delivery amounts are adequate to meet our customer demand without blending. FLUORIDATION Fluoridation of the City of Santa Maria’s drinking water
