How does the relative position of the sun and the moon influence Tides?
The relative position of the sun and the moon influences the type of Tide. Spring tides occur on full moon and new moon nights, when the moon and the sun are almost in line with the earth. The combined pull causes some of the highest tides. Neap tides occur when the moon is at first and last quarter and the sun and the moon make a right angle at the earth’s center, so they form the lowest tides.
