How does the Red Cross operate?
The Canadian Red Cross is a non-profit humanitarian and charitable organization dedicated to improving the situation of the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world. Red Cross is governed by a volunteer Board of Governors at the national level. Zone/Territorial and region councils at the community level work within the governing policies of the Board, and in line with the overall direction for the Society. They provide direction to and monitor local operations ensuring compliance, transparency and future thinking. The day-to-day operations are headed by the Secretary General and CEO, who is responsible to the Board of Governors. With its national office, its four zones (Western, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic), local offices within the zones, and with the support of thousands of volunteers, the Canadian Red Cross assists millions of Canadians each year.
