How does the premajor processor work?

All new majors begin as “premajors.” The premajor period is your chance to determine whether Comm will be a good major choice for you. It is also your chance to show the Comm faculty that you can succeed academically in the major. At a minimum, premajors must complete 7 credits: Comm 100, one core course from 171, 271, or 273 and one introductory course from 160, 190, 192, 230, 240, or 280. After completing the minimum requirements, she or he has a Communication GPA of 2.75 or higher, the student is eligible to apply to the major. If not, the student may take up to 6 additional credits of UWSP comm courses to try to achieve the required GPA. A student can have completed NO MORE THAN 13 CREDITS of UWSP communication courses at the time of application, unless granted permission in advance to do so by the Head of the Division of Communication or the Undergraduate Advising Coordinator.
