How does the popular vote affect….?

0

Nothing, we as Americans, do not vote for our President. We vote for an Electoral College, that each state selects Electors, who depending on who won the majority count, in their state, will cast their votes for that person. However, there is no law forcing then to vote as their state voters did. Each state, has it’s own rules, some are winner take all, while others allot a share, depending on their elections. If one candidate, gets sixty percent of the popular vote, then they can get sixty percent of the State’s Electoral votes. So you can see why that confuses the voters. It’s possible and has happened, that the person with the most votes, doesn’t become President, as in Gore Vs Bush, in 2000.
