How does the PMI PMP compare to other certifications ?
PMI PMP is a vendor independent top level management certification covering all the critical concepts, objectives, and termnology. The program was developed to insure project managers know how to manage with the “how’s and why’s” in all related areas. The PMI PMP designation will get you noticed by management or perspective employers. CompTIA’s Project+ is a beginners program similar to A+ or Network+ and typically focuses on the basics using Microsoft project. No experience or reference requirements. That’s where you would want to get your start if you lack any experience in managing projects. Project+ is entry level for college students and junior persons just starting in the world of projects. Which would you rather have running YOUR projects, a beginner, a beginner with 5 days training, or someone with over 2 years and PMI certification ? PMI’s PMP would probably win. Just going through the process is real evidence of your ability and commitment.
