Several areas within the Valemount SRMP will be closed to snowmobiling from December 1st to the middle or the end of April of each year. None of these closure areas have been used intensively by snowmobiles in the past. Some closed areas such as the McAndrew Lake area in the North Thompson have been used by a limited number of experienced riders. The plan also recommends development and management of new snowmobile areas at Oasis, Robina, Horsey Creek and the North Thompson Valley, subject to public safety considerations – such as avalanche hazard – being addressed. These new areas would improve public snowmobiling opportunities and increase the total area and facilities available for snowmobiling. In addition, part of the Westridge area that has historically been closed to snowmobiling is reopened under the SRMP.
