Chris: Everyone has this path they think they should take – it’s the safe route. You go to college; you wake up everyday and mow the lawn; and go to work for eight or nine hours a day. We didn’t want to do that. We wanted to say that you don’t have to do what everyone else does. It was an eerie picture, like it was straight out of American Beauty. So we thought it was cool to have on the front. VH1: Do you ever have nightmares that you’ll turn into that guy on the album cover? Chris: In “These Walls” we imagine ourselves being 35 and taking the safe route, finishing up my mechanical engineering major at [UC] Santa Barbara, and going to work for my uncle. I did a nine-week internship and it was the most boring thing I have ever done in my life. I worked nine to five every day, and commuted 45 minutes in traffic everyday. I couldn’t stand it. It was good to go through that and see what I was missing – and I wasn’t missing anything! VH1: Do people recognize you on the street yet? Chris: N
