How does the patented illumination technology work?

When the bulb-shaped button on the watchcase is pressed, a visible light LED (light emitting diode) illuminates for three seconds followed by the UV-LED (ultra violet light emitting diode) for two seconds. The button must be released and pressed again for additional illumination. The LED’s are positioned on the underside of the watch crystal, beneath the black bulb emblem, providing an even distribution of illumination. Select watch faces are treated with fluorescents or phosphor, which absorbs the UV emissions and then releases the stored energy as visible illumination. Note: Please do not press the button when you are swimming, snorkeling or under water. Patents (U.S. Pat. 6,729,738 B2, 6,730,530 B2; Intl. Pat.
