How does the Paradise Tree Snake fly?
Paradise tree snakes can ‘leap’ across open spaces. They leap by coiling their body tightly against a branch and then straightening out suddenly. As well as leaping, these snakes can glide for long distances, from tree to tree or from tree to ground. To glide, the snakes spread out their ribs, creating a ‘hollow’ along the underside of their body. This hollow catches a cushion of air that slows the snake’s fall, the same way a parachute would.
