How does the ordinance affect religious organizations?
Recent revisions to the ordinance expand exemptions for “religious organizations.” The original ordinance — approved by commissioners and then rescinded — provided some exemption to religious groups. That version allowed restricting access to jobs and housing that are “operated as part of the religious activities of the institution” to “individuals who conform to the moral tenants of that religious organization.” The latest version adds language that excludes parochial schools, homeless shelters and dormitories operated by religious organizations from being affected.
