How does the optional coverage for acquired brain injury (ABI) and LOIE work?

0

When included in Sun CII plans, this benefit pays 100% of the coverage amount if the insured person is diagnosed with and survives ABI or LOIE. ABI is damage to the brain that occurs after birth. It is not related to a congenital disorder, a developmental disability or a progressive process or disease. It may be caused by traumatic injury, anoxia (an absence of oxygen) or encephalitis (an inflammation of the brain). LOIE means a total inability to perform, by oneself, at least two of six activities of daily living (ADL) or cognitive impairment requiring supervision. To claim, the LOIE must be expected to be permanent. When a benefit for ABI or LOIE is paid, the critical illness policy ends.
