A complaint or allegation of a violation of University rules and regulations is received by OSRR, usually in the form of a University Police Dept. report, a Housing referral or a notice from faculty. OSRR investigates the allegation and if there is evidence of a violation, initiates the student disciplinary process by sending the student a letter containing a notice of the charges and directing the student to call the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities to schedule an appointment. Can I consult an advisor, including an attorney, during the disciplinary process? A student may confer with family members, advisors or attorneys at any stage in the informal or formal process but attorneys are not permitted to participate in a hearing if the matter proceeds to that phase.
