If you have a current, valid Compact RN license, you are not required to obtain a Texas RN license before applying for APN authorization in Texas. Because Texas is not currently a part of the APRN Compact, any nurse who wishes to practice as an APN in Texas must first obtain APN authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing.
