How does the NLC get implemented?
In order for a state to join the NLC, state legislators or regulators must enact the interstate compact into state law or regulation. The NCSBN Delegate Assembly set out to accomplish this beginning in 1997, and drafted an outline called Strategies for Implementation of the Mutual Recognition Model of Nursing Regulation. Does enactment of the NLC affect a state’s current Nurse Practice Act? Enactment of the NLC does not change a state’s Nurse Practice Act in any way.
