How does the new measure for Canadian Forces members affect the regular eligibility period for EI parental benefits?
To provide more flexibility for Canadian Forces members, the new measure extends the EI parental benefit eligibility period, up to a maximum of 104 weeks. This extension is available to Canadian Forces members who cannot collect all their parental benefits during the regular eligibility period because of an imperative military requirement, as confirmed by the Department of National Defence form “PATA Extension – Imperative Military Requirement”. The imperative military requirement can either defer or interrupt their parental leave.
