How does the NBA draft work?
For the teams that make the playoffs, they pick based on the their win-loss percentage last season. The team with the highest percentage has the last pick of each round. Therefore, the worst team in the playoffs will have the fifteenth pick, because fourteen other teams do not make the playoffs. These fourteen teams enter a draft lottery to determine the order of selection. The worst team will have the highest chance of being awarded the first pick and so on. If there happens to be two teams with the same win-loss record,a coin flip is used to break the tie.
Their is 2 rounds to the NBA draft. Each team get a pick in each round unless they traded away their pick which would lead to another team accumulating a extra pick. Still dont know how my Rockets with 3 first round picks left Rashard Lewis sitting on the board, yeah Bryce Drew good call. Anyway the teams that dont make the playoffs all have the earlier picks. From worst record to best record without making the playoffs they are given basicly, ping pong balls, the worse your record the more balls you are allocated. So each team has a different chance of getting the first pick. Worst record in the league has the best chance. Then they have a Draft show, which reveals who will pick where. Their used to be a Rumor back in the day, they used Envelopes and the rumor was the the Knicks envelope was placed in a freezer so when David Stern picked he would grab the cold one that would give the Knicks Patrick Ewing. I cant believe that would happen the NBA manipulate something for its benefit ri
