How does the mythological character Murcury relate to the character mercutio from Romeo and Juliet?
They both share traits with Trickster. Trickster is a sort of iconoclast, a breaker of rules, a revealer of charlatons and phonies of all varieties, who tears down the curtain to let all see the truth. He’s also a mocker, and puns would not be out of character. Trickster is both foolish and clever at the same time. Mercutio makes fun of Tybalt and Romeo alike. He put a curse on *both* houses who’ve participated in the long-standing feud — Romeo’s no less than Tybalt’s. He sees it clearly, for what it is. By that curse, he ripped to pieces the curtain that says that both houses are enemies, and each, to themselves, is in the right. In effect, he says that they’re both wrong, the feud is stupid, and they both deserved to be cursed. He accurately puts the blame for his death equally on his friend and his friend’s enemy. And he’s right.
