How does the Merck Vaccine Patient Assistance Program (PAP) work?
A. Briefly, the Merck PAP allows patients over age 19 years old to obtain Gardasil free, if they meet certain income and insurance coverage criteria. In general the income requirements are less than: –$20,240 for individuals –$27,380 for couples or –$41,300 for a family of four Different criteria exist for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. Merck recognizes that sometimes exceptions need to be made based on a patient’s individual circumstances. Individuals who do not meet these criteria may still qualify for the vaccine program if the patient has special circumstances of financial and medical hardship. The applicant must apply from a facility that is not “wholly owned and operated by the government”. Hence, all tribal and urban facilities would qualify, plus those IHS facilities that receive additional funding other than federal funding (e. g., grants, contracts, private funding).
