How does the Judicial Council determine if the interpreter certification examinations accurately assess an interpreters ability?
As a good business practice, the Administrative Office of Courts (AOC), the staff agency of the Judicial Council, periodically reviews the interpreter certification examinations and processes. In July 2006, the AOC entered into a contract with ALTA Language Services, a professional consulting firm in the field of language testing, to conduct a broad review of the test objectives, methods, and testing instruments common to all of the California certification examinations. The final results of this review are expected in September 2007 and will be used to develop future court interpreter examinations.
