How does the immune system fight infection throughout the body?
The immune system is a highly specialize, complex and vital network of organs, cells, and interconnecting vessels that work together to maintain the health of the dog. The general view of the immune system is that it exists to clear infection from the body. There are two main fluid systems in the body: blood and lymph. We are very familiar with the blood circulatory system but there is also another system that is equally complex. The term “lymph” derives from the Greek language meaning “the pure fresh river” The blood and lymph systems, which are intertwined and spread everywhere, throughout the dogs body. These fluid networks are the superhighways of the immune system that are responsible for transporting the agents of the immune system.
