How does the Illinois pension reform law passed in 2010 affect my IMRF pension?

If you were participating in IMRF, or any Illinois reciprocal pension with any employer, prior to January 1, 2011, it doesn’t affect you at all. New hires who start working on January 1, 2011 or later and have no previous involvement with an Illinois state pension will have lower retirement benefits.
