How does the human brain function?
The human brain is the source of the mind’s consciousness and cognition (or the way your brain processes information, applying knowledge, and changing preferences). The mind is the set of cognitive processes related to perception, interpretation, imagination, and memories, of which a person may or may not be aware. Beyond cognitive functions, the brain regulates automatic processes related to essential body functions such as respiration and heartbeat. Also, some parts of the human brain are capable of controlling one’s emotional behavior. The midbrain functions include routing, selecting, mapping, and cataloguing information, which include information perceived from the environment and information that is remembered and processed throughout the cerebral cortex. Endocrine functions (such as releasing of hormones) housed in the midbrain play a leading role in modulating arousal of the cortex and of automatic systems.
