Well, mail shipping and delivery would probably be delayed if it was in the US for a US public holiday, and in Canada for a Canadian holiday for federal workers – and similarly for holidays marked in specific states or provinces. In Canada, there’s a long weekend in early August. Both countries have a holiday September 7th (we just spell it differently; Labour Day / Labor Day). On public holidays, there is no mail delivery and post offices are closed in Canada. A generation ago, mail delivery was slower and more unpredictable around Christmas, even with many extra sorters and carriers hired, but this doesn’t seem to happen any more because most people no longer send hundreds of Christmas cards by post.
