How does the HemCon® Dental Dressing work?
The chitosan in the HemCon® Dental Dressing has a positive charge, and attracts red blood cells, which have a negative charge. The red blood cells create a seal over the wound as they are drawn into the dressing and stabilize the wound surface. Since the dressing works by interacting with red blood cells, will the dressing work on patients taking anticoagulants? During our clinical trial, 8 patients on anticoagulants (Aspirin and Coumadin) were treated with the HemCon Dressing. All dressings were effective.
