How does the Heartland Project Team weigh the various factors involved in selecting a route?

Stakeholder input can influence the relative weight that these factors will be given at specific potential line locations. For example, a particular community may value environmental factors more highly than others, and that can be taken into consideration during route selection near that community. Typically (but not always) a proponent will seek to avoid close proximity to residences, schools, hospitals and daycares. As well, where possible, a proponent will seek to avoid constraints (such as set-back areas around airports or environmentally sensitive areas) and to utilize existing corridors (e.g., parallel other lines and utility rights-of-way, TUCs). The Heartland Project Team is currently considering the issue of the potential impacts of property values and gathering additional input through ongoing public consultation.
