How does the formulation of ENJUVIA differ from that of Premarin®?
ENJUVIA and Premarin have not been studied in a head-to-head clinical trial. Both ENJUVIA and Premarin are conjugated estrogens. ENJUVIA is a plant-derived formulation that contains a blend of 10 synthetic conjugated estrogens, including Δ8,9-dehydroestrone sulfate. Premarin also includes these 10 essential estrogens; however, it is derived from the urine of pregnant mares. The clinical significance of this is unknown.1,2 Another difference is that ENJUVIA is the only oral estrogen that utilizes Surelease® technology, combined with a cellulose-based polymer tablet design and provides slow release of estrogens over several hours.1,3 Premarin is a registered trademark of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
